The structural problem we were trying to solve
Financial publishing has an incentive defect that no amount of editorial goodwill fixes on its own. A comparison page earns more when it sends you to a high-commission product. A "best credit cards" list earns nothing when the correct answer is "pay down the balance and do not open another card." The economics quietly select for advice that is technically accurate and practically useless.
The answer here is procedural rather than moral. Fiscora maintains no affiliate relationships with the products it analyses, publishes models with editable inputs so you can disagree with a number rather than a conclusion, and funds the work through clearly labelled advertising that has no contact with the editorial process.
The test we applyWould this page still say the same thing if the highest-paying advertiser in the category read it? If the answer is no, it does not publish.
Who writes this
One person, named, on every page. Fiscora is written, modelled and maintained by Maher, who curates MetaX.Academy — the independent educational publisher this site belongs to.
Why one author rather than a mastheadA site that invents a roster of credentialed-sounding analysts is easier to trust and harder to hold accountable. One name attached to every page is the honest version, and it means a correction has somewhere to land.
How a guide gets made
- Start from a decision, not a keywordEvery brief begins with a question a real person has to answer this month, with money attached.
- Build the model firstIf the decision has arithmetic in it, the model is built and stress-tested before a word of prose is written. The prose explains the model, not the reverse.
- Check the numbers against a second sourceModel outputs are reconciled against published rules, rate tables or a worked example before the page goes out. Where a topic needs a licensed professional, the guide says so rather than implying one reviewed it.
- State the limitsEvery model page lists what it does not account for. A projection presented as a forecast is a lie with a chart attached.
- Schedule the reviewRate-sensitive pages are re-checked quarterly, tax pages annually, and every change is logged at the foot of the guide.
What we will not do
- Rank products by commission. We do not run affiliate comparison tables at all.
- Gate educational content. If it helps you make a decision, it is free and indexable.
- Pad for length. A 900-word answer is not improved by becoming a 3,000-word answer.
- Publish a projection as a prediction. Deterministic models are useful; certainty is not on offer.
- Sell your data. Every calculator runs client-side. There is no endpoint to send it to.
How we are funded
Advertising, and nothing else. Display units are clearly labelled, served programmatically, and selected by the ad platform rather than by us. No advertiser is shown a draft, gets to request a change, or is told what a page will say. The advertise page sets out the inventory and the boundaries.
If you believe a page has drifted from these standards, the fastest route to a correction is the newsroom contact form. Corrections are logged publicly on the page itself, not quietly edited.
Fiscora publishes educational information, not personalised financial, tax or legal advice. Read the full disclaimer and our editorial policy.
